About The Department
The department of Chemistry, one of the most upgrading Science departments, was established in 1965 with the vision of spreading knowledge of basic science among the pupils. After long time running, considering the great demand for Chemistry Honours, the Honours course has been introduced in the year of 2013.
The department runs with highly qualified, energetic and motivated faculty members. All the faculty members are student friendly, conscious about their duties and possess sound knowledge in their respective area of specialization as well as in computer usage. All the non-teaching stuffs (Laboratory attendants and store keepers) are very sincere and cooperative.
The department is proud to possess one well equipped laboratory with all required apparatus, visual teaching aids and other necessary instruments required to fulfill the Chemistry Honours curriculum of the University. The Honours students of the department enjoy the facility of an excellent seminar library in their own Department. The general students can access central library as their resource.
Most of the faculty members are engaged in active research, both nationally and internationally. One of the faculty members, Dr. Amitava Dutta, spent four years (1998-2002) as Post-Doctoral fellow funded by National Science Council, Tiwan. He also spent three years (2008-2011) as Visiting Fellow at Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica, Tiwan and has many collaborative work with eminent scientists of the said institute. Dr. Amit Kumar Dutta, a young faculty member, has been recently sanctioned a minor research project, which he is about to initiate soon, by UGC. He is going to purchase some modern instruments and equipments for the said project which will, in turn, enrich the department. Ananda Gopal Sarkar, a part-time faculty member, is a Ph.D scholar under University of Calcutta. Soumyajit Sett, our guest faculty member, is pursuing his Ph.D as well, and is going to submit his thesis soon.
Looking at the present upgraded and enhanced infrastructural facilities, the Department has recently been granted affiliation by Vidyasagar University, to introduce the Post Graduate course in the subject in distance mode.

About The Department
This department started functioning since the inception of the college in 1965. From the beginning, it has been offering B.Sc. General Course as part of the B.Sc. Bio-Science Section. The Department also uses to teach the Environmental Science course to the students of Commerce and Humanities streams earlier. B.Sc. Honours in Botany was introduced in the college with the sanctioned student strength of 15 in 2006. The department currently has approx. a total of 200 students (Honours and General course).
The department has a laboratory and is well equipped with modern and sophisticated instruments. It has a departmental Seminar library and a departmental teachers’ library, in addition to having access to the Central library. It also subscribes academic journals for both teachers and students. The Department also possesses a small museum having a collection of various botanical specimens. Moreover during botanical excursions many specimens are collected from different ecological habitats and the unique ones are displayed in the museum. The department organizes frequent excursions to have a comprehensive idea on the floristic composition of different regions of India. It also publishes a wall magazine ‘PHYTO-ESSENCE’ tri-annually. Moreover, special lectures, seminars, quiz, essay and debate competitions on environmental, ecological and botanical related topics were organized for students time to time in the department.
The teachers of the department use different teaching aids like projectors, charts, models, microscopes, permanent slides, preserved specimen, Herbarium, museum etc. in the classrooms for better understanding of the students. The department also take special care of the students who are weak in various ways and conduct regular tutorials and try to encourage good and bright students to improve their academic performance through special coaching, guiding in projects and student seminars, helping them to participate in intra & inter collegiate competitions.
Every year Department of Bengali organized the following programmes on regular basis:
1. Bhasha Dibas on 21st February – This programme is organised involving all other departments of the college to commemorate the martyrdom for Bengali language. All the teaching, non-teaching staff and students participate spontaneously.
2. Birthday ( 25 se Boishak) & Death Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore (Baishe Srabon) – Department of Bengali conducts the programme every year. All other departments are invited to participate in the programme alongwith non-teaching staff and students. Rabindrasangeet, recitations and lectures are essential part of the programme. Every year eminent personalities from different institutions come and deliver talks.The HOD Bengali has represented the department before many eminent personalities of India and abroad.
3. Paper presentation by the students – The Head of the Department, Bengali organises the paper presentation session each year on regular basis. Some students of the department present the paper in the presence of the other students and the teachers. The students raise some critical points or observations on their own. Students are always encouraged to form their own observations and point of view. The teachers also comment on the the particular topics presented. The Head of the department keeps encouraging the students for voluntary participation in such academic activities.

About The Department
In 1965 ,the department started with Honours and General Courses. From the very beginning this department has played a vital role in the upliftment of the academic atmosphere of the college.There are 4 sanctioned posts; presently there are three efficient teachers contributing to the academic development of the department.
The department organizes a number of group discussions,class tests ,tutorial classes for upgrading the standards of the students. In the near future,the department would like to open the M.A. course.
