On 18th January,1965, the department started its journey with 4 sanctioned posts. It has always occupied a distinguished position in the scheme of things over 50 years, acting as a bridge between the institution and the outside world in speech, AV and print, whenever called upon for the purpose. Presently the student-intake for the Honours course is nearly 100; the department has recently been strengthen to it full capacity of 4 permanent teachers with flair and variety both in teaching and research.
About 1600 students study compulsory English and about 161 are enrolled for the B.A English Honours & 125 for General Course.
