Anthropology as a subject was introduced by Bangabasi College in the first phase of its initiation in 1887. In the year 1965, Bangabasi Morning College inherited the subject.The department was run by eminent teachers of distinction, academicians and so on. As the college is located at the heart of Central Kolkata and close to Sealdah Railway station, it gives easy access to the students of Central Kolkata, North & South 24 Parganas.Teachers of the department teach B.Sc.(Bio) General Anthropology students.Students of the department are continuously assessed by the teachers through class test, project work, museum visit, field work, demonstration assignment, laboratory methods and so on. Eager and meritorious students are always encouraged towards further development. Teachers of the department are always ready to give all sorts of academic support even beyond their classroom as far as practicable.
Department regularly conducts museum visits to enhance the interest of the students in the subject. Department also conducts field survey by the students regularly, preferably in rural areas [camp type] for a few days so as to gather knowledge about varied types of societies (tribal, peasant society etc),their socio-economic lives and problems from different perspectives.
